Fostering

The number of animals we can save is exactly the number of homes willing to make room

Aid4Aid covers all the expenses.

Our foster homes are what make rescue possible. Without an available foster, we cannot bring an animal into our care, no matter how badly they need us. Fostering will not cost you a cent — we cover everything.

What we provide

  • All food
  • All veterinary care
  • Support and guidance
  • Adoption screening and placement

What we need from you

  • Love, patience and a safe home
  • A commitment to foster until a forever home is found

That's the whole list. There is no fee, no deposit and nothing to buy.

Can you foster?

Four practical things — what makes a foster placement work for the animal.

  • Southern Suburbs

Our primary vet is in Tokai, and animals need to get there easily.

  • Home in the day

Especially for puppies or kittens, who can't be left for a working day.

  • Own transport

For vet visits, hand-overs and meeting potential adopters.

  • A secure space

Somewhere an anxious or unsterilised animal can't escape from.

Who you would be fostering

Every animal in our care lives in somebody’s home, never a kennel — and not every home suits every animal.

  • Adult dogs

Rescued as adults, surrendered, or grown up in care while they waited — and adult dog fosters have always been difficult to find.

  • Adult cats

Grown cats ask for very little and settle in quickly — often the gentlest first foster a household can take on.

  • Puppies

They come in by the litter and get into everything — puppies need a household that is home during the day.

  • Kittens

Endlessly busy, then asleep two minutes later — kittens need somebody around while they learn how to be cats.

  • Mothers and their litters

Rescued pregnant, or brought in already nursing — she does nearly all the work herself, and mostly needs to be left in peace to do it.

  • Bottle feeders

Orphaned or rejected, and far too young for solid food — these are the ones who depend entirely on the person holding the bottle.

Enquire about fostering

Fostering starts with a message — you'll be talked through it, and you're not committing to anything by asking.
